I’ll start with a statement that has often made people want to throw something at the person making it…
‘Losing weight is a simple equation.’
This is true, from the
chemical point of view. Less energy in and more energy
out and you’ll lose weight. But when you are putting it
into practice, it’s not so easy. The absolutely huge
‘diet’ industry illustrates that point. Why do we all
need so much help when it is apparently such an easy thing to do?
Sometimes you know what it is that is stopping you from losing weight or keeping it off, sometimes you have no idea. But even when you know what it is that is stopping you, somehow you just can’t get over that barrier.
No matter how much you try, no matter how much effort you put in, no matter how focused and how much you spend on diet plans, classes, books, exercise equipment, the list goes on! No matter what you do, year after year you are making the same resolutions and the same decisions and you really mean it!
It can get so frustrating!
I lost count of the number of times I started dieting and losing weight, and started again and started again, and then cried and cried and cried. I got so fed up of thinking about it. It is amazing how much thought and feeling gets taken up by trying to change something about oneself, especially when it’s so fraught with feeling as weight loss, body image and confidence are.
For one reason or another, diets do not work. It’s not until you look at the emotional reasons behind the more obvious reasons, like food and exercise, that you can really start to actually make a difference, and really change!
I discovered this after retraining as a therapist in a few different therapies; using hypnosis, hypnotherapy and an energy meridian, acupressure point tapping therapy, called EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques). I designed a weight loss programme to follow and followed it.
To start with I used the ‘quick fix’ factor that EFT allows, and totally removed my cravings for chocolate, cakes, crisps, sweets biscuits and other sweet and fatty foods I had previously felt addicted to. This was accomplished in one evening! I then utilised various different techniques including positive visualisation, powerful positive suggestion, and over the next few months took myself through the
weight loss programme. This included improving my confidence, my belief in myself, removing doubts, improving my self image and much more.
It was as though I’d waved a magic wand! Gone were the days of comfort and binge eating. Gone were the days of sitting inside and hiding. I was happy and in control of myself and my eating habits!
I didn’t follow a strict diet, I ate what I wanted when I wanted it, my tastes and appetites had simply changed to a healthy, normal level. I started loving drinking water and easily drank my 2 litres a day. My skin, my mood and my energy levels improved.
Even when I went through a rather traumatic relationship break-up I did not reach for the chocolate or the cakes, which was what I had been doing for years!
I lost over 3 stone in a year without dieting and without over exercising. Just by using these methods my eating habits changed within days. Bit by bit the weight just dropped off.
Now I’m the size 10/12 UK size, (US 8/10) I have always wanted to be. It feels great!
I have proved this method time and again with my clients in my consulting room. I now specialise in weight loss and help many people lose weight with ease.
So what’s the key? It is that the ‘weight’ isn’t the real issue. It is the emotions that drive you to eat in unhealthy patterns, it is the emotions that have linked themselves to eating, and it is the comfort and habit factors that need to be addressed. Once you have a method to sort out the comfort and binge eating, the emotional side of why you are still overweight, a method that allows you to have a combination of a quick fix and long term results, then there is nothing in your way!
